Serious Illness insurance covers an individual for life or for a set period against a number of serious illnesses, diseases and medical conditions.

It pays out a single tax-free lump sum on the diagnosis of one of the illnesses specified in the policy details.

Please note different providers use different definitions in relation to Serious Illness Cover and that a policy would only pay out if the customer services a predetermined time period following diagnosis unless the plan also included life cover.

how does it work?

Serious Illness Cover pays out based on the severity of your illness.

This means you could receive a payment earlier on in your illness, even if it's not life threatening.

You can also make multiple claims, and receive more than one payout, if your condition gets worse or you suffer a different illness.

With Serious Illness Cover, the Comprehensive Plan covers 161 conditions, whilst the Primary Plan covers 100.

Traditional critical illness policies limit the number of listed illnesses and conditions to around 35, whereas this plan include a range of common conditions that are unique to this policy.
